From Mexico with Mastery: Secrets to Handling Your Business While Away

I'm coming to you from Mexico on my vacation and I thought I'd give you a couple of tips on how to balance being away as well as running a business.

Number one, have a great team. Have a great, great team.

My team is in my inbox all the time.

My team sets up my away message to go on two or three o'clock before the day I leave to start slowing down. They monitor what's coming in; they handle what they can in the mornings. I usually check my inbox and I pass forward anything that needs direction.

So I'm not coming back on that night before work to 500 emails. None of us want to do that. It's overwhelming. It's counter productive to being on vacation.

Another great tip is to really communicate with your clients. Let them know what you plans are. I don't hide that I'm away.

Let everybody know. I'm going away. I'm really excited. My clients are excited for me, and it's a great model to the people we work with that.

We take vacations and we value the time and space that opens creativity for innovation in our business. When we're running 100 miles an hour, that innovation and creativity goes nowhere.

I also take some time while I am away to just think and walk and step into that innovative space. It always comes back to me as a win with new ideas and fresh perspectives.

If I didn't say it already, and I say it all the time, make sure you have a great team behind you.

When you have a great team behind you, you can take the time, the space that takes care of you.

So then you could come back and take care of everything that's on your agenda.

Adios from Mexico! I'm off for cocktails and a great taco.
